SUN

Sun is considered to be female and to govern the basic physical makeup and the mitochondrial DNA (the genetic mother line) of the individual, while Moon is considered male and is the Hunter or the desire and attraction element. Both Sun and Moon are considered measurers of the sky, and distributors of the energies of the ancient and eternal Star Clans. These ancient sources of genetic code are symbolized by the Totem Animals in the constellations and in the clans of the various tribes.

Sun in Bear Place = Harvest Moon (Sun in Libra)

The Tsalaki Moon of Early Autumn is called Duninvdi or Harvest Moon. It corresponds to the West direction and to Dusk or Sunset as well as the Autumn Equinox. At this time of year, when you were born, nature is moving slower and the decreased rate of plant growth is apparent. Leaves change color and begin to fall from deciduous plants as nature begins to darken and prepare for the relative dormancy of the season. The Tsalaki people have their Great Harvest Festival or Nowategwa, and Great Moon Festival or Tseno'i'egwa during this Moon.

Harvest Moon People are content, thoughtful and patient. They are born when there is plenty of food and most people are celebrating. They witness, however, the steady darkening of the world in their earliest memories. This can give them a discouraged attitude, and they can be grouchy. They can try so hard to be fair that they end up being resentful.

The Sun Guardian of this Moon is the Black Bear in the Tsulawi tradition. Bear (Yanu) is nonaggressive unless insulted or intruded upon, and has poor vision but excellent sense of smell and intuition. Dwelling in the Middle Realm of Water in Air, Bear is also the Guardian of Kidney Plants in Kvniakati herbal medicine. The bears are all monogamous for a season, then they angrily avoid their mates. They do not usually travel very far and are often solitary. You have many Bear qualities that come from the Middle Realm of the Gate of Sleep and Death, the place of Judgment. Lethargy, indecision or introverted withdrawal may be a problem for you, but you have reflection, intuition, dream power and usually patience in abundance.

The partner Guardian of Bear is Panther, another dangerous animal. They do not exactly get along well, but they operate at different times of day and year as predators and respect each other. If they clash, it is a violent one, and Panther retreats angrily. Panther is likely to eat Bear's young cubs if possible.

Songbirds, Otter, Alligator and Elk all get along well enough with Bear. Otter and Alligator are Bear's fishing buddies. Bear and Beaver get along alright but try to stay out of each other's way. Mouse and Snake also just try to steer clear from Bear but follow in her wake looking for food.

Rabbit is very irritating and oversentimental to Bear who is an occasional carnivore and although very rarely enjoys an occasional fawn for lunch, is nevertheless frightening and clumsy to the Deer. Red Hawk is very aggravating to Bear and ruins her fishing. They have many conflicts unless there are other mediating animals.
